THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is the only off-site archive in the country dedicated solely to the storage and same-day, on-demand retrieval of tissue blocks and slides for hospital systems and their anatomic pathology labs. Enterprise health systems are signing on faster than anyone expected, and the Operations Manager is the person who keeps that promise every day. This is the linchpin seat: own the production floor, hold the standard, and help scale a lean, fast-growing operation across the Southeast.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

For more than fifteen years, this company has protected millions of irreplaceable tissue samples and guaranteed something no one else in the market will: the right specimen, retrieved on demand, with a fully validated chain of custody from its facility to the pathologist’s hands. The company pairs proven processes with proprietary, tray-based scanning technology and a disciplined, proximal-site model to deliver a level of accountability its competitors cannot match. Its clients include some of the largest hospital systems in the region, and its footprint is expanding across the Carolinas, into Jacksonville, and beyond.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Operations Manager owns day-to-day production across the company’s archive footprint. Everything operational — scanning, courier logistics, and archive management — runs through this seat. You will lead the people, manage the vendors, hold the schedules, and own the numbers that keep specimens moving accurately and on time, and you will set the operational tone as new sites come online.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

  • Weekly production numbers, measured against budget and tracked with full transparency.
  • The full production cycle: high-volume specimen scanning, courier pickup and delivery, and archive filing and retrieval.
  • People leadership for site teams — schedules, time, morale, and hiring for front-line staff across locations.
  • Vendor relationships end to end: sourcing multiple bids, negotiating, and holding partners accountable.
  • A third-party IT vendor responsible for connecting operations across sites. You manage and hold them accountable; you are not the IT resource yourself.
  • Chain-of-custody discipline at high volume, where every specimen is unique and accuracy is non-negotiable.
  • Operational readiness as the footprint expands across the Southeast.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A background in logistics, supply chain, last-mile courier, or high-volume production and scanning operations.
  • Proven leadership of hourly, front-line teams, with a talent for keeping morale and standards high.
  • Real vendor-management ability — you get three prices, you negotiate, and you follow through.
  • Enough IT fluency to manage a technical vendor credibly and hold them accountable.
  • Comfort owning hard weekly metrics tied to a budget.
  • The maturity to thrive in a lean organization — someone who has moved, or wants to move, from a big, resourced environment to a hands-on one, and is energized rather than deflated by wearing several hats.
  • Alignment with the core values below.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Familiarity with production-scanning environments or specimen and document management at scale.
  • Experience standing up or supporting multi-site operations.

WHO THRIVES HERE

This role rewards follow-through and attention to detail over improvisation. The best fit is someone to whom “you can hand a mountain to” and then trust them to handle it — organized, accountable, and relentless about getting it right. We look for operators who bring visible drive every day, whether gregarious or quietly determined; our term for this type of enthusiasm and self-motivation is “Batteries Included.” Clock-punchers will not enjoy it here.

CORE VALUES

  • Team — the service is delivered by the team; no single person carries it alone.
  • Batteries Included — high energy and genuine pride in the work, every day.
  • Perfection — an orientation toward getting it exactly right, because clients are entitled to it.
  • Accountability — we stand behind our guarantee, without excuses.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Competitive base salary plus a performance-based incentive tied to the production metrics tracked every week — structured for full transparency, with real upside for hitting the numbers. Benefits include employer-paid coverage toward employee health premiums.

LOCATION & FOOTPRINT

Charlotte, North Carolina area. The role owns the company’s Southeast footprint, with additional sites in motion across South Carolina and in Jacksonville. This is an on-site operational role.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates who advance will complete three short assessments — the Kolbe A Index, Gallup StrengthsFinder, and the PDP (Personal Dynamic Profile) — before meeting the hiring team. Interviews are conversational and experience-based; expect to talk in depth about the teams you have built and led.
